What is DOWN’S Syndrome?

 

Down’s syndrome is the commonest chromosomal abnormality, which is caused by an additional chromosome 21. It happens in 1 in 650 of all livebirths and is highly associated with advancing maternal age (For example, maternal age of 35 associated with 1 in 380 risks). Most of the cases are sporadic ie not hereditary.
